AVIN Pulse
Terms of use
In short
- Be who you say you are, and be decent to other members. Break that and we can remove content or your account.
- What you post stays yours. You give us permission to show it in the app and on this site, nothing more.
- The AVIN Pulse app and thermometer are aids, not a substitute for your own judgement cooking over fire.
- The online shop is not open for real orders yet.
- These terms are governed by South African law.
Who we are
AVIN Pty Ltd makes wood-fired ovens in Cape Town, South Africa, and publishes the AVIN Pulse app and this website. By using the app, this site or the shop, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use them. Reach us at info@avinsa.co.za or on WhatsApp, 082 605 1314.
Your account
You can cook, keep a cook history and browse recipes and the community with no account. An account, including a quick join with just a display name, is for syncing your history between phones and taking part in the community. You are responsible for what happens under your account, and for keeping your sign-in details to yourself. Tell us straight away at info@avinsa.co.za if you think someone else has access to it.
What you post
You can share posts and photos, comment on other members' posts, and publish your own recipes with a photo. Before your first post or comment, the app asks you to accept our community guidelines:
“Keep it friendly and on-topic: share real cooks, recipes and tips, and treat other members with respect. No harassment, hate speech, spam, or inappropriate language. Posts and comments are moderated, and content that breaks these rules may be removed.”
Photos are limited to 10 MB each (5 MB for a profile photo), in JPEG, PNG or WEBP. A post carries up to five photos and fifteen tags; a recipe carries one. Do not post anything you do not have the right to share, or anything obscene, threatening, or that infringes someone else's rights.
The rights you give us
What you post stays yours. By posting a recipe, a photo or a comment, you give AVIN a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, display and distribute it within the app, on this website and in the AVIN Pulse community, for as long as it stays up, so that other members and visitors can see it the way the app is meant to work. We do not sell it, license it to anyone else, or use it to advertise anything other than the AVIN Pulse app and community themselves. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for a copy kept where the law requires it (see our privacy policy on retention).
Keeping the community decent
Posts and comments pass an automatic word filter before they are saved, on top of the guidelines above. Any member can report a post or comment, or block another member so they no longer see each other's activity. AVIN staff can hide or remove content that breaks these terms, and can suspend an account for repeated or serious breaches. Suspending an account stops it posting; it does not remove what that account already posted, which stays up unless we separately remove it.
The app and your AVIN
The AVIN Pulse app and its Bluetooth dome thermometer are aids for cooking on your AVIN oven: they help you watch temperatures and know when something is ready. They are not a substitute for your own judgement, your own food-safety knowledge, or checking doneness yourself before serving. The thermometer only reports over Bluetooth range, and background alerts may be delayed if your phone's operating system suspends the app during a long cook. Use common sense, especially with poultry and pork, where the app shows a safe-minimum warning as a guide, not a guarantee.
The online shop
The AVIN online shop is not yet open for real orders: no payment provider has been switched on, and our delivery, returns and tax terms are still being finalised. Once it opens, your rights under the South African Consumer Protection Act will apply as normal, and we will publish our own returns process alongside it.
Our brand
AVIN, the AVIN Pulse name and our logos belong to AVIN Pty Ltd. Nothing in these terms gives you rights to use them outside of the app and this site as intended, for example in your own posts, without asking us first.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from Settings, then Account, then Delete account, or by writing to us. We can suspend or delete an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms. Either way, see our privacy policy for exactly what is deleted, and what is kept without your identity for safety and record-keeping.
Our liability
We work hard to keep the app, this site and the community running well, but we do not promise they will always be available or error-free. To the extent the law allows, AVIN is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the app, this site or the community, or from content other members post. Nothing here limits any liability that South African law does not allow us to limit.
Changes to these terms
When the app or site changes in a way that changes these terms, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. Significant changes are also announced in the app. Continuing to use the app, this site or the shop after a change means you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of South Africa. Any dispute that cannot be resolved between us is subject to the jurisdiction of the South African courts.
